It was a mistake: Spotify regains the function of sending music through Google Assistant

Users of free Spotify accounts regain the ability to send music to Devices compatible with Google Assistant. The company guarantees that it was an error that has already been repaired.

Spotify has re-created the feature that lets you send music or podcasts to any Google screen or smart speaker using a free account. The company guarantees that everything was wrong. In addition, it has indicated that it has no plans to remove the feature mentioned, as previously revealed.

In a statement received by The European Press Agency, Spotify gives peace of mind to its free users, but does not provide details on the technical origin of the problem that has remained for more than a week:

Google Assistant Problem

Last Tuesday, free Spotify accounts lost the ability to send content to Google Asisstant-compatible external devices such as smart speakers, TVs and screens. Initially, this restriction was due to a function that would be available only for premium accounts.

Spotify has not commented on the order, until today. In fact, the music service and Google Assistant help pages didn't mention any changes to the free features. However, it was not long before the official statement to clarify that everything was wrong and not a move for users to get a premium.

Now, everything seems to be returning to normal. According to 9to5Google, the Android app is back to work fully with Google Assistant, while the iOS app still has some flaws in playing content, although this won't take long to resolve.

Spotify HiFi may arrive this year

Recently, Spotify has also announced a new way to compete with Tidal Hi-Fi and Amazon Music HD. Although the company has not disclosed the launch date, it seems that everything indicates that this post for music lovers will arrive at the end of 2021.
